Recombinant Human (rHu) Resisitin seems to have contradictory effects in rodents and humans. In rodents, it seems to primarily mediate insulin resistance and a diabetes-like syndrome. In humans, the insulin resistance effect is still unclear, but there is evidence for mediation of inflammatory processes by eliciting cytokine production and NF-κB activation. Recombinant resistin produced in E. coli is a 20-kDa dimeric protein made up of two 93-amino-acid polypeptide chains.
