Vascular Access Button? for Rats

Original Twist-in Tether Design

This implantable single-channel button features an external port with a septum for quick, aseptic connection and disconnection of a catheterized rat and an infusion tether.?

Attach a 3Fr polyurethane catheter (for example: JVCs, FVCs, CACs) to a 22ga connector under the felt. The button is implanted at the time of catheterization; to begin an infusion study simply disinfect the septum and connect the mating VAB95T tether with a twist. The recessed septum-piercing needle will make the fluid connection without exposing the fluid path to the environment. Alternatively, access the button manually with the needle-free VAH6M injector. Use the VAB95CAP protective cap to group house animals when they are not tethered.?

Differences between this original model and the newer VABR1B/22 buttons include:

  • Larger 6mm diameter port instead of newer 3mm PinPorts; uses VAH6M injectors instead of PNP3M
  • Twist-in tether connection instead of magnetic connection
  • Protective cap secured by friction fit with o-ring rather than magnets
  • No compatibility with 2, 3 and 4 channel models
  • Option for an MRI-compatible button, model VAB95BS-MRI (new!)
