Z-DEVD-FMK is a cell permeable peptide which binds irreversibly to the catalytic site of the intracellular enzyme Caspase-3, which plays an important role in the induction of apoptosis. The binding of Z-DEVD-FMK to caspase-3 inhibits the activity of this protease, enabling it to inhibit the progression of apoptotic events downstream of caspase-3 activation.
