Description
BIRC7 is part of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein (p) family and contains a single py of a baculovirus p peat (BIR) as well as a RING-pe zinc finger domain. The BIR domain is necessary for inhibitory activity and cperates with cpases, while the RING finger domain sometimes increases antipptotic activity but doesn't inhibit apoptosis by itself. 2 transcpt variants encoding diverse isoforms have been found for this gene. The 2 isoforms have dissimilar antpptotic characteristics, with isoform protecting cells frompptosis induced by staurporine and isoform b defending cells from apoptosis induced by eposide. BIRC7 has direct contact with several cpases together with cpase-3, cpase-7, and cpase -9.
