Epitope: a.a. 35-48 in the homeodomain. This antibody recognizes both the engrailed and invected gene products of Drosophila and the epitope has been localized to residues 38-58 of the homeodomain. The antibody is useful for examining the patterning of segmentation from the cellular blastoderm stage onward. Staining is also seen in a large number of CNS neurons including most of the median neuroblast progeny as well as a small number of PNS neurons. Engrailed gene products are also recognized in grasshopper, crayfish, lobster, zebrafish, chicken and Xenopus. The antibody fails in mouse and Manduca sexta (moth). The antibody will recognize denatured proteins and is also valuable for expression cloning.
