Cyclophilin A (PPIA), Peptidylprolyl isomerase A, is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the PPIA gene. Using chromosome 7 and chromosome 10 deletion hybrid panels, the PPIA coding gene is localized to 7p13-p11.2. This gene encodes a member of the peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase (PPIase) family. Cyclophilin A is also a member of the immunophilin class of proteins that all possess peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerase activity and are believed to be involved in protein folding and/or intracellular protein transport. And Cyclophilin A binds to the Gag protein of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1).
