In humans, the mechanism of BER involves the initial action of DNA glycosylases followed by the processing of the resulting abasic site either by the AP-lyase activity of the bifunctional glycosylase or by the apurinic/apyrimiddic endonuclease APE1 that incises the DNA strand. BER mechanisms can be induced by oxidative stress and various genotoxic attacks. The Glyco-SPOT DNA Repair Assay is a multiplexed oligonucleotide cleavage assay developed on support.
