Description
PEN2 Polyclonal Antibody. Presenilin enhancer protein 2 (PEN-2) is a part of a gamma-secreted complex which catalyses the final cleavage of amyloid precursor protein to generate the toxic amyloid beta protein, the major component of plaque in the brains of Alzheimer disease patients. It is an essential subunit of the gamma-secretase complex, and an endoprotease complex that catalyzes the intramembrane cleavage of integral membrane proteins such as Notch receptors and APP (beta-amyloid precursor protein). And probably represents the last step of maturation of gamma-secretase, facilitating endoproteolysis of presenilin and conferring gamma-secretase activity.
