DescriptionFunction: Neuronal cell surface protein thought to be involved in cell-cell-interactions by forming intercellular junctions through binding to beta-neurexins. May play a role in formation or maintenance of synaptic junctions. May also play a role in glia-glia or glia-neuron interactions in the developing peripheral nervous system. Defects in NLGN3 may be the cause of susceptibility to X-linked Asperger syndrome 1 (ASPGX1). ASPGX1 is considered to be a form of childhood autism.Subcellular location: Membrane, Single-pass type I membrane proteinTissue specificity: Expressed inolfactory bulb andolfactory epithelium. Found inolfactory ensheathing glia but not inolfactory neurons, and in developing peripheral glia. Also known as: NLGN3, NL3.
ImmunogenA synthetic peptide to extracellular domain of human Neuroligin-3 (NLGN3) conjugated to an immunogenic carrier protein was used as the antigen. The antigen is homologous in rat and mouse.
