| Description | The reactivity of the antiserum is restricted to alpha-foetoprotein. In immunoelectrophoresis and radial immunodiffusion, using various antiserum concentrations against amniotic fluid, hepatoma sera and purified alpha-foetoprotein a single precipitin line is obtained. No precipitation reaction is obtained with normal human serum |

| Immunogen | Alpha-1 orosomucoid is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 41,000. It is an acute phase protein with a carbohydrate content of 42%. The mean concentration of this protein in serum is 900 μ g/ml. Concentrations are elevated in cases of tissue damage, inflammation, oestrogen administration and the presence of myeloma. Freund's complete adjuvant is used in the first step of the immunization procedure. |
