Ribosomes, the organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. RPS13 is located in the cytoplasm and contains multiple phosphorylated residues. Like most ribosomal proteins, Ribosomal Protein S13 exists as multiple processed pseudogenes that are scattered throughout the genome. Recombinant human RPS13 protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
