Description
Function: Required for the uptake of creatine in muscles and brain. Defects in SLC6A8 are the cause of X-linked creatine deficiency syndrome (XL-CDS). XL-CDS causes developmental delay, hypotonia, mental retardation, seizures, short stature and midface hypoplasia.Subcellular location: Membrane, Multi-pass membrane proteinTissue specificity: Predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle and kidney. Immunogen
A synthetic peptide from aa region 200-250 of human SLC6A8 conjugated to an immunogenic carrier protein was used as the antigen. The peptide is homologous in rat and mouse.
