A fluorocycline antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (MICs = 0.03-0.25 and 0.125-0.25 μg/ml for S. aureus and Enterobacteriaceae clinical isolates, respectively); active against a wide range of bacteria except for P. aeruginosa and B. cenocepacia (MIC90s = 50 = 0.22 μM); maintains antibacterial activity against E. coli expressing tetracycline resistance genes comparable to a lacZ control (MICs = 0.031 - 4 and 0.063 μg/mL, respectively); protective against tetracycline resistant S. aureus, MRSA, S. pyogenes, and E. coli in a mouse septicemia model (PD50s = 0.3, 0.3-1, 1, and 1.2-4.4 mg/kg, respectively); reduces the number of CFUs of S. pneumoniae tet(M) in a mouse lung infection model (3-12 mg/kg, i.v.)
