The CAMK2B gene encodes a subunit of calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaM kinase II, CAMK2), a multifunctional serine/threonine kinase that has critical roles in synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory, including long-term potentiation. In mammalian cells, the enzyme is composed of four different chains: alpha, beta, gamma, and delta.
