The BT-474 line was isolated by E. Lasfargues and W.G. Coutinho from a solid, invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast obtained from a 60-year-old woman; cells were reportedly tumorigenic in athymic mice and were found to be susceptible to mouse mammary tumor virus.
