Enzymatic reactions that generate PPi include ATP hydrolysis, DNA and RNA polymerization, cyclic AMP formation, and enzymatic activation of fatty acids to form their CoA esters. Conversely, enzymes that utilize PPi may include cyclases, hydrolases and ligases.
