N,O-Bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide (BSTFA) is a silylation reagent used to add trimethylsilyl groups to amines, alcohols, steroids, carboxylic acids and other polar functional groups. BSTFA is useful for derivatization prior to GC or GCMS analysis.
