Description
Human cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a member of the herpes virus group that causes major health problems in neonates as well as in immunocompromised individuals. CMV is a double-stranded linear DNA virus. Replication may be divided into immediate early, delayed early, and late gene expression based on time of synthesis after infection. CMV gB (CMV glycoprotein B) is an abundant virion envelope protein that is essential for the infectivity of CMV. CMV gB is also one of the most immunogenic virus-encoded proteins, and a significant fraction of virus neutralizing antibodies are directed at CMV gB.
