Description
The p21 protein is a tumor suppressor which controls progression through the cell cycle by inhibiting the activity of cyclin dependent kinase (CDK-) complexes. The p53 tumor supressor protein induces p21 gene expression, by recognizing a p53 binding site identified in the promoter of the p21. p21 is associated with the pathogenesis of various human cancers.
