The product has been biotinylated with LC-Biotin-XNHS, which provides a 6 C- atom spacer between the gelatin and the Biotin residue. It has been purified by size exclusion chromatography. The recombinant 100 kDA gelatin was produced in yeast. The purity of the gelatin by SDS PAGE has been > 99 % and the endotoxin content was < 1.0/mg EU/mg Formulation: The product has been lyophilized from a solution of 28.6 mg/ml in PBS pH 7.4.

Coating of cell culture equipment (plates, beads etc.): Gelatin is used as a matrix for cells as e.g.fibroblasts. Biotinylated gelatin may be used as a matrix with the additional function of binding of biotinylated chemokines or cytokines via a avidin or streptavidin bridge. the bound chemokines or cytokines may serve as a signal for cells and/or as a depot for growth factors. as they are released very slowly. In a similar approach with biotinylated peptides as a matrix it has been demonstrated that biotinylated IGF-I was detectable for 28 days.
