Description
The complement C3a anaphylatoxin receptor (C3aR) is a seven-transmembrane G-protein coupled chemoattractant receptor that mediates numerous cellular responses. The second of the three extracellular loops is unusually large and seems to play a role in agonist binding. C3aR can be detected at various levels in practically all tissues. Inflammation seems to strongly increase the expression of C3aR. In human bacterial meningitis, strong expression of C3aR was observed on astrocytes, microglia, and infiltrating macrophages and neutrophils.
