Description
Marker for natural killer (NK) cells; neuronal cell adhesion molecule (NCAM). Monoclonal antibody MEM-188 specifically reacts with human CD56, the prototypic marker of human NK cells that is also present on a subset of CD4? and CD8? cells in peripheral blood. CD56 is also detectable on brain in the cerebellum and cortex and at neuromuscular junctions, as well as on certain large granular lymphocyte (LGL) leukemias, small-cell lung carcinomas, neuronal-derived tumors, myelomas, and myeloid leukemias.
