Supposedly established from the peripheral blood of a 72-year-old woman with acute myelomonocytic leukemia (AML FAB M4) in 1983; however Creative Bioarray DNA fingerprinting and cytogenetic analysis established unequivocally that JOSK-I, JOSK-M and U-937 are identical; thus, JOSK-I is clearly a derivative of U-937
