ODC is pyridoxal phosphate dependent amino acid deacarboxylase, which catalyzes the conversion of ornithine to putrescine. It is the first and rate-limiting step in the polyamine biosynthetic pathway. Polyamines are involved in processes such as cell growth, differentiation and synthesis of macromolecules.
