Inhibits cytochrome P450 1A1 (IC50 = 23 uM) and displays mixed agonist/antagonist actions at ERalpha and ERbeta estrogen receptors. Trans-Resveratrol is a potent phenolic antioxidant found in grapes and red wine that also has antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory activity. trans-Resveratrol is also a selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1). It inhibits COX and peroxidase activities of COX-1 with ED50 values of 15 and 3.7 uM, respectively. There is essentially no inhibition of the COX-2 activity. Resveratrol also activates sirtuins and, extends lifespan in C. elegans. Converted into the anticancer agent piceatannol by cytochrome P450 1B1.
