Description
This purified monoclonal antibody is directed against hepatitis C Non-Structural Protein 3 (p-70) and was purified by Ion exchange chromatography. Purity was confirmed by ELISA to be >95% pure. Hepatitis C is one of the five hepatitis viruses of the liver. Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) is a small, enveloped, single-stranded, positive-sense RNA virus. It is a member of the genus Hepacivirus in the family Flaviviridae. There are seven major genotypes of HCV, which are known as genotypes one to seven. The genotypes are divided into several subtypes with the number of subtypes depending on the genotype. In the United States, South America, and Europe are most commonly caused by genotype 1. The half life of the virus particles in the serum is around 3 hours and may be as short as 45 minutes. In an infected person, about 10 virus particles are produced each day. In addition to replicating in the liver the virus can multiply in lymphocytes. HCV is spread primarily by blood-to-blood contact associated with intravenous drug use, poorly sterilized medical equipment, needlestick injuries in healthcare, and transfusions. The virus persists in the liver in about 75% to 85% of those initially infected. However over years it often leads to cirrhosis and liver disease. Structural proteins made by the hepatitis C virus include Core protein, E1 and E2; nonstructural proteins include NS2, NS3, NS4A, NS4B, NS5A, and NS5B.
