Peptide mapping is a rapid method to identify the amino acid sequence of the target proteins. Unlike Edman degradation sequencing, which analyzes each amino acid identity from the N-terminal end, peptide mapping methods only analyze the mass peptide, which are then compared to the theoretical peptide masses of known proteins, to speculate the identity and sequence of the target protein.
